WHAT TIME IS IT???
Matt attends International Gay Rodeo Association Convention in Kansas City—Has Celeb Sighting! I spent a wonderful week in and around Kansas City the first week of November. I always love visiting KC, and this trip didn’t disappoint. I know many people probably think the Midwest is full of nothing but windblown plains and rednecks, but KC is actually a very cosmopolitan city, situated on the banks of the Mighty Missouri River with beautiful trees and rolling hills throughout. The fall foliage was spectacular this year!
I was in KC to attend the annual IGRA Convention as part of a delegation from Sacramento’s Capital Crossroads Gay Rodeo Association (www.capitalcrossroads.org/). Our association has been seeking sanctioning by IGRA for 7 years, and after much hard work by many people in our association, we were able to realize that goal. Our association was formally recognized and seated as an IGRA member association at convention! Sacramento’s rodeo is on the IGRA calendar, and will be held July 25-27, 2008. I would love to see you all there! I was also fortunate to be able to visit family I have in the KC area for a few days.

It just so happened that there was also some sort of huge African American church choir convention going on at the convention center across the street, and there were scores of people staying in the same hotel as a couple hundred Gay and Lesbian cowboys and cowgirls. That made for some pretty funny scenes in the hotel’s packed elevators (think cowboy hats and choir robes) LOL! Anyway, One of their featured guests was Morris Day (of Morris Day and The Time, the movie Purple Rain, etc.). He did a concert for them on Saturday night, and stayed at the hotel. On Sunday afternoon, he and his entourage ended up in the hotel lounge with about 50 gay cowboys watching the Kansas City Chiefs lose to the Denver Broncos. L Of course several of us just HAD to get our picture taken with Morris Day!

Had a great time, ate some awesome BBQ, had a celeb sighting—Kansas City was a blast!
Happy Trails,
Matty
